If you visit Cuba, you should take a road trip through the countryside, that too in a Vintage car. We visited two quaint little towns – Cienfuegos and Trinidad – during our trip.
Cienfuegos
After a long drive through highway, we reached the small town of Cienfuegos. Located in the southern coast of Cuba, Cienfuegos is an old settlement originally started by French Immigrants in 19th century. It still retains its French classical charm and is listed as one of UNSECO World Heritage sites.
On the Road
We left Cienfuegos and continued on through winding scenic country roads to our next destination. Here are some pictures from the journey.
Trinidad
Finally we reached our next destination – Trinidad – the oldest town in Cuba, dating back to 1500s. This is another UNESCO World Hertiage site, because of the beautifully maintained Spanish Colonial architecture.
The Historic area of the town is purely pedestrian, except for cars of few locals who reside inside. The moment you step inside you are greeted with pastel coloured colonial houses with wrought iron grills and cobblestone paths.
The historic area can be covered in foot in an hour or two. After the tour, our guides dropped us at our B&B – a beautiful colonial house facing the main square in the historic centre itself!
A walk around the town after the guided tour is a must. This gives you enough time to observe the people and architecture and of course, take photos in peace!
Way back…
After spending the night in Trinidad, next day we returned in the morning to Havana. One thing we noticed on the highway were the propaganda hoardings. Here are few of them
